Left Front expect new govt not to go for FDI in banking sector

Agartala, May 21 .Tripura Finance Minister Badal Choudhury today affirmed that the Left Front would continue to pressurise the new government against anti-imperialism, secular polity and independent economic development ensuring economic and social justice to all.

Talking to reporters here Mr Choudhury said that it was because of the Left Front's opposition, that the previous UPA government could not go for foreign investment in nationalised banks, investment of employees' provident fund in share market and disinvestment in insurance sectors.

''Manmohan Singh has already indicated that the new government will pursue it's unfinished task in respect of economic policies and the country will now see the actual face of Congress - the rich will become richest and poor, poorest,'' Mr Choudhury said.

He, however, pointed out that the Left Front expected the new government not to go in for Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in the banking sector and underlined, ''There is no need to go in for FDI in this sector because our banks would have gone the way the banks went in the United States during recession and it is because of the Left Front's protest that our banks stand protected.''

Mr Choudhury further stated that the Left Front also expected the new government to provide another opportunity to those who had opted for contributory provident fund to switch over to pension scheme.
