Members of Eighth Sikkim Legislative Assembly take oath  


Gangtok, May 22 .The newly-elected members of the Eighth Sikkim Legislative Assembly were sworn in today by pro tem Speaker Menlom Lepcha.

The pro tem Speaker administered the oath to Chief Minister and Leader of the House Pawan Chamling and other 30 newly-elected members of the eighth Sikkim Legislative today, the first session of the new Assembly.

The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), led by Mr Chamling, had swept the all the 32 Assembly seats.

After the newly-elected members took oath, the pro tem Speaker Pro-tem announced the nomination for the election of the Speaker.

SDF MLA from Syari constituency Karma Tempo Gyalsten was nominated and elected as the Speaker of the Eighth Sikkim Legislative Assembly.

Similarly, M B Dahal, the SDF MLA from Geyzing-Bermoik, was elected as the Deputy Speaker.

Chairpersons of various Assembly committees were also nominated.

In his vote of thanks, the Chief Minister said his new government is committed to complete all the ongoing infrastructural and power projects in this term.

''We will fulfill all the promises mentioned in our election manifesto,'' Mr Chamling said.

Mr Chamling has been a member of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly continuously since 1985.
